HIMSS: Senior Vice President, Enterprise Marketing and Communications
Terri J. Sanders, MPH, is senior vice president of enterprise marketing and communications for HIMSS, a global advisor and thought leader supporting the transformation of the health ecosystem through information and technology. With more than 15 years of experience, Sanders is an award-winning marketing, communications and brand strategist.

Sanders began her career as a business leadership executive fellow for Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). She later served as manager, enterprise strategic services for Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), managing a $400 million portfolio encompassing subscriber services, claims and inter-organizational programs.

As the head of strategic marketing and communications at HCSC, Sanders drove business development while leading strategic marketing communications campaigns and proposal process, significantly increasing the company’s reach and revenue. She oversaw creative and digital media while working on more than 145 client and product implementations—with her ideas earning recognition from the Chicago Innovation Awards. She is most proud of her work there as the diversity council vice chair and chair—having built a comprehensive inclusion program, and leading the community service program for the state of Illinois’ nearly 500 employees.

Sanders later joined The Chartis Group as director, external communications, to help create a new functional area. The role quickly expanded to include all branding, marketing and communications. During her tenure, she helped launch nine new and expanded service offerings and supported the acquisition and branding of three new entities. Sanders also managed the rebranding of the firm, launching two new websites that earned 11 industry awards. Her efforts drove new levels of brand awareness in the marketplace for the firm, contributing to its growth.

Sanders holds a master’s degree in health management and policy and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, where she graduated summa cum laude. She has certifications in multi-channel integrated marketing communications, advertising and public relations essentials, social media and professional business writing from DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.
